Best Things to Do in Mysore

Mysore in Southern India stole a little piece of our hearts and sucked us into staying there an entire month. It’s not necessarily that there are so many places to visit in Mysore but the relaxed vibes, amazing food and culture of this city that make you feel like you’re at home and discovering vibrant, new cultures all at the same time. Mysore is famous for silk and sandalwood but there are many more exciting things to do in Mysore than avoiding the tourist scams at the silk markets. From the stunning Mysore Palace to creating crafts with local artisans you’ll want to spend weeks eating, discovering and exploring your way through all the places to visit in Mysore. But in case you only have a couple of days, here are the best things to do in Mysore during your visit.

I travelled to Mysore with my relatives & cousin. We started from Bangalore at 5 am. we went in our car and booked a driver. We reached Kamat hotel at Ramanagaram at 7 am, had mude idly there and then began our journey towards Mysore. we went to Chamundi Hills, and the views from there were quite breathtaking. However, watch out for the monkeys and pestering hawkers who roam around the Temple of Chamundeshwara.

A little lower down the Chamundi Hills was a pretty big statue of Nandi crouching on the rocky surface; it looked gentle, not like the Bull in the Bull Temple in Bangalore. And the lookout views from both these hilltops were quite incredible. Then we went to the Mysore Zoo. Mysore Zoo is a 157-acre zoo located near the palace in Mysore, India. It is one of the oldest and most popular zoos in India and is home to a wide range of species. Mysore Zoo is one of the city's most popular attractions. The same evening, we went to Brindavan Gardens which has lots of wide-open spaces and colourful fountains. The musical fountain was a good garden. As we all tired and headed towards our hotel, had dinner and slept.

The next day we checked out and started our journey toward the Mysore palace. Mysore Palace, also called Amba Vilas Palace, is one of the most magnificent and largest palaces in India. Situated in the southern state of Karnataka, it used to be the official residence of the Wodeyar Dynasty, the rulers of Mysore from 1399 to 1950. Today, Mysore Palace is managed by the Government of Karnataka while it continues to retain its designation as the Royal Seat of the Maharajas of Mysore. The grand edifice preserves various valuable possessions of Woodyear’s which includes souvenirs, jewellery, royal costumes, and paintings. Though the palace is open to the public, the erstwhile royal family still continues to live in a portion of it.

Then we went to the aquarium which was so beautiful. A lot of different kinds of fish from different parts of the country. Then we had our lunch and then headed to our last destination which was the Tippu tomb which was in Srirangapatna. From there we headed back to Bangalore and we reached it by 10 pm.
